Pekalongan Batik Museum

Pekalongan is one of the cities in Indonesia, located in Central Java Province. Precisely, Pekalongan located in Pantura line, the line connecting the Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya. Pekalongan is 101 km west of Semarang or 384 km east of Jakarta.

Pekalongan also known as ‘Batik Town’ because of Pekalongan batik production is so beautiful and varied. Well, batik pekalongan already known to foreign countries, Pekalongan batik has become one favorite commodity imported for this area.

If you want to know and learn more about Indonesian batik varied, so in Pekalongan precisely in JL. Jetayu No. 1 there is a museum of batik which offers various kinds of batik from time to time. You can observe development of batik from the Dutch era, the Japanese influence during World War II with the Hokokai Java motive.

In the museum there are also batik collections from outside Java Island such as from Sumatra, batik from Sumatra stout influenced by Islam culture which looks from the motifs that resemble the Arabic script calligraphy. Pekalongan batik museum collection is very interesting, because you can see the 100 years old ancient batik. There is also Encim Kebaya worn by Chinese women in Indonesia. At the front of the museum you will be directly served by the library and batik shop selling many trinkets. In the center there are four showrooms that showcase batik from various regions, most of Batik Pekalongan. While in the back of the museum there is a workshop area that will show how to make batik. Inside the museum there are several spacious rooms with large windows and door, so that feels very high historical nuance.
